Things to Know Before Visiting Lova Thalupulamma Temple, Tuni
Lova Thalupulamma Temple is one of the most popular village goddess temples in Andhra Pradesh. It is located near Tuni, about 8 kilometers away, and sits beautifully between two green hillocks called Darakonda and Teegakonda. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Thalupulamma Thalli, who is believed to fulfill the wishes of her devotees. The word “Thalupu” means wish, and “Amma” means mother, which is why she is called the goddess who listens to peopleโs wishes.
The main purpose of this temple is to offer prayers to the goddess for protection and prosperity. Many people visit here to seek her blessings before starting something new in life. One of the most common traditions is vehicle puja. When someone buys a new car, bike, or truck, they bring it here to perform a special ritual for safe travels. You will often see vehicles lined up near the temple for this reason. The belief is that once you take your vehicle to the goddess and pray sincerely, she will protect it and keep you safe on the road.
The templeโs presiding deity, Thalupulamma Thalli, is believed to be a self-manifested goddess. That means she appeared naturally, not built by anyone. Devotees believe that you do not even need to visit her in person for her blessings. If you simply think of her with true devotion, she will grant your wish. This belief makes the temple very special among local people.
Lova Thalupulamma Temple is famous not only in East Godavari district but also across Andhra Pradesh. Every day, hundreds of visitors come here, and during festival days, the temple becomes very crowded. The main festival, called Jathara, happens in the Ashadam month of the Telugu calendar. During this time, people come from different districts to offer prayers, food, and perform rituals. The temple has become a symbol of faith and local culture, connecting both devotion and natural beauty.
The temple itself is small but peaceful. There are not many other temples inside the main compound, but the area around it feels very spiritual. The forest-covered hills and natural surroundings make it an ideal place to spend a few hours. Some people also treat it like a short picnic spot, bringing food and spending time with family after visiting the goddess.
If you are planning to visit, there are a few things you should know. The temple is around 8 kilometers from Tuni town and is easy to reach by car or auto. The road goes through hilly terrain with some sharp turns, so drive slowly and carefully. The temple usually opens in the morning and closes by evening, so it is better to reach early. If you are going on a weekend or festival day, itโs good to go before 10 AM to avoid the crowd.
You will find small shops near the temple selling coconuts, flowers, and pooja items. There are also places where you can cook food, as many families perform special rituals that include preparing food as part of the offering. The temple does not have luxury facilities, so it is best to carry your own water and snacks. Most visitors make it a half-day trip, visiting the temple and returning to Tuni or Annavaram for their stay.
If you plan your visit well, you will find this temple to be a peaceful escape from the noise of the city. The natural setting, clean air, and the devotion around you create a simple but powerful experience. The goddess is known as the one who listens to your prayers, and many visitors say they feel a calm satisfaction after visiting her.
A Peaceful Experience At Lova Thalupulamma Temple
When I reached the parking area near the temple base, I could already hear temple bells and the chants of devotees. The air felt cooler and fresh compared to the town below. I parked my car and began the short walk up to the temple. The path had steps, but it was not very steep, so even elders were able to climb comfortably. Along the way, I noticed many families carrying coconuts, flowers, and pooja baskets, chatting happily as they went up.
Once I entered the temple compound, I was greeted by the calm and simple beauty of the place. The main sanctum of Thalupulamma Thalli stood in the center. Inside, the goddess idol was beautifully decorated with flowers and lamps. People were patiently waiting for their turn to offer prayers. I joined the line and soon had my darshan. There was a strong feeling of peace and warmth when I stood in front of the goddess.
Outside, I saw many people performing vehicle pooja. There were bikes, cars, and even trucks parked in a line. Priests were blessing each vehicle, marking them with turmeric and vermilion, and tying small garlands on the front. Watching this, I could sense how much faith people have in the goddess for their safety. Even drivers from other districts come here just for this purpose.
After completing my darshan, I walked around the temple surroundings. The view from the hill was really lovely. You can see the green valley below and the long road winding back to Tuni. Some families had brought food and were preparing meals near the shaded spots. The temple area allows devotees to cook and eat together, which gives a homely feeling. I decided to sit for a while and just take in the silence and fresh air.
There was a small shop nearby where I bought a cup of tea and talked with the shop owner. He said weekends and festival days are very busy, and sometimes vehicles line up all the way down the hill.
When I was ready to leave, I looked back once more at the temple and the hills behind it. There was something special about that moment. The combination of faith, nature, and simplicity made it a memorable visit.
