All You Need to Know About RK Beach
Ramakrishna Beach is named after the Ramakrishna Mission Ashram nearby. The ashram was built to honor the spiritual teacher Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. Many people come here for peaceful views, cool sea breeze, and open walking space. It is a clean and relaxing spot, popular with both locals and tourists.
The beach is close to famous places like the Submarine Museum, TU-142 Aircraft Museum, Kali Temple, and VUDA Park. This makes it easy to cover many places in one trip. Every year, about 20 million people visit Visakhapatnam, and RK Beach is one of the main attractions. In busy months, the beach alone sees around 2 to 3 lakh visitors.
A new helicopter museum with a UH-3H chopper is coming up beside the TU-142 Museum. This will give visitors another exciting reason to stop by the beach. A laser show is also planned recently at the Victory at Sea War Memorial, built after the 1971 Indo-Pak war. These efforts aim to make the beach more attractive and informative.
Gokul Park near the beach is worth a visit for some calm and greenery. Itโs a nice place to sit, walk, or take photos with family.
The beach road is closed to traffic until 7 am, so people can enjoy walking or jogging without vehicles. This makes mornings at the beach even more peaceful.
To protect tourists, the city is working to stop people from entering dangerous rocky areas. These safety steps help reduce accidents and keep the beach secure. GVMC uses special beach-cleaning machines every day to keep the area tidy. But people still worry about plastic waste and lack of clean toilets and seating.
A Day to Remember at RK Beach
Last month, I went on a short trip to Visakhapatnam with my cousins. One of the main places we wanted to visit was RK Beach, also known as Ramakrishna Beach. I had heard a lot about it from friends and seen pictures online, but visiting it in person was something else.
We went to the beach in the evening, around 5 PM. As we got closer, I could hear the sound of waves and feel the cool breeze on my face. The beach was quite crowded, but it didnโt feel uncomfortable. There were families, kids running around, young people taking selfies, and even some elderly people sitting on benches and watching the sea quietly.
The first thing I did after reaching was take off my slippers and walk on the sand. The sand felt warm and soft under my feet. I went closer to the water, and when the waves touched my feet, I felt so happy. Itโs a strange but beautiful feeling, standing at the edge of the sea and watching the water go back and forth. The sky had a lovely orange-pink colour because the sun was starting to set.
My cousins and I took a lot of pictures. We even made a small sandcastle and tried to write our names on the sand before the waves washed it away. There were many food stalls nearby selling corn, pani puri, ice cream, and other snacks. We had roasted corn with lemon and chilli. It was simple but so tasty!
One thing I really liked was the clean surroundings. Even though the beach had a lot of people, there were dustbins placed at different points, and many people were actually using them. That made me happy because I care about keeping public places clean.
We also saw the INS Kursura Submarine Museum, which is located right on the beach road. We didnโt go inside that day because it was getting late, but just seeing the big submarine from outside was exciting. Iโve never seen a real submarine before!
As the sun went down, the lights along the beach road started glowing, and the whole place looked magical. There were people selling balloons and toys, and someone was blowing big soap bubbles into the air. Kids were laughing and chasing them. For a while, I just sat on the sand quietly and watched the sea. It made me feel calm and peaceful.
I would definitely love to visit again. If you ever go to Visakhapatnam, donโt miss RK Beach. Itโs not just a tourist spot, itโs an experience.
