Things to Know about SV Zoological Park…
Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park is one of the biggest zoos in India. It is located in Tirupati and is very large and peaceful. This zoo is special because it follows a mythological theme. That means some of the animal areas are named based on Indian stories like the Ramayana and Mahabharata. For example, Mayuravani is where peacocks stay, Mrugavani is for herbivores like deer, and Vrukavihar is for small carnivores and birds. These names make the zoo interesting and fun to learn from.
One of the best parts is the Lion Safari, which started in 2009. You can sit in a battery vehicle and go inside a big area where lions walk freely. It feels exciting and natural. This ride is not included in the entry ticket, so you need to pay a small extra charge.
To make your visit comfortable, the zoo has bicycles for rent. You can take a normal cycle or an electric one by paying a small fee. This helps you move around easily because the zoo is very big. There are also electric vehicles if you donโt want to walk or cycle. Inside the zoo, youโll also find canteens for snacks, drinking water, resting benches, toilets, and even wheelchair access for people who need it.
Many people use the free TTD bus to reach the zoo. This bus runs every 30 to 45 minutes from Tirupati Railway Station and Central Bus Station. It stops at Alipiri, and from there you can take another short bus ride (about 15 minutes) to reach the zoo. This makes it easy to visit the zoo without worrying about travel.
To enjoy your visit fully, plan to spend at least 3 to 4 hours in the zoo. The entry fee is low, and if you want to take the Lion Safari or rent a cycle, it will cost a little extra.
The zoo also supports animal care and protection. If you like, you can adopt an animal by donating money. In return, you get a certificate, your name displayed near the animalโs area, and free entry on some days. The zoo also celebrates special days like World Lion Day (August 10), Global Tiger Day (July 29), and World Elephant Day. On these days, there are events and programs to teach visitors about animals and how to protect them.
An Adventurous Visit to S V Zoological Park
We visited SV Zoological Park in Tirupati during our recent trip, and it turned out to be a very different and interesting experience. We didnโt plan for it in the beginning, but someone suggested itโs worth visiting, so we added it to our list. Itโs located not too far from the main city, and the road to the zoo was quite open and easy to drive.
The moment we reached the entrance, we noticed how big the area was. The zoo is spread across a large space, and itโs not like the usual zoos with animals kept in small cages. Here, the enclosures are very natural and open, giving the animals more space to move around freely. It felt more like walking inside a forest than a regular zoo.
We bought the entry tickets, it wasnโt very expensive: โน70 for each adult and โน30 for our child. There was also an option to take a battery-operated vehicle to tour the zoo since itโs quite large and it was a bit sunny, so we chose that and paid an extra fee.
One of the best parts was the lion and tiger enclosures. They have a large area to roam, and we got to see a lion resting under a tree and a tiger walking near the fence. It didnโt feel forced or unnatural. We also saw bears, leopards, and a few types of deer.
Another highlight was the special section for reptiles. They have crocodiles, snakes, and turtles in safe enclosures, and everything is well maintained. Kids were really enjoying this section, as it was something they donโt usually see.
What makes this zoo different is how peaceful it is. Itโs not noisy or overcrowded like other zoos. The surroundings are clean, and thereโs greenery all around. Benches are placed under trees, so you can sit and rest. We even brought some snacks and ate them while sitting under the shade.
Overall, the visit to Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park felt refreshing. Itโs not just for kids, even adults can enjoy and learn a lot. If someone is visiting Tirupati, I would surely suggest spending a few hours here.
