7:00 AM โ Start at Rajahmundry Railway Station
Get down from the train, walk to the chai stall on the platform, and enjoy a hot cup of tea with a crispy Mysore bonda. Take a minute to look around, watch the morning crowd, and feel the calm buzz of the station before you start your day.
7:30 AM โ Drive to Dowleswaram Barrage (12 km, ~15 min by auto)
Get into an auto and head to the famous Dowleswaram Barrage, built by Sir Arthur Cotton in 1852. It stretches 3.6 km across the Godavari River. Walk on the wide path, feel the cool mist from the 175 gates, and see how the river splits into two parts here. Thereโs no entry fee, sit on the stone steps, click a few sunrise photos, and think about how this barrage once saved many farmlands from drought.
9:00 AM โ Explore Sir Arthur Cotton Museum (2 km, ~10 min by auto)
Right next to the barrage, there is a small and simple museum about Sir Arthur Cottonโs great work. Inside, you can see old maps, models of canals, and black-and-white photos showing how irrigation changed this area long ago. The entry fee is just โน2 for adults and โน1 for childrenโa small amount to learn about a big part of history.
10:30 AM โ Visit ISKCON Temple (3 km, ~12 min by auto)
Go to the ISKCON Sri Sri Radha Gopinath Temple at Goutami Ghat. The temple is spread over two acres. Look at the colourful towers and walk on the peaceful marble floors. Sit near the river, listen to the soft bhajans inside the temple, and enjoy the calm feeling. Entry is free and you will find beautiful idols of radha krishna.
12:00 PM โ Ferry to Kotipalli Kotilingeswara Temple (60 km, ~1 hr by cab + ferry)
Take a cab and go south to Kotipalli island, then take a small ferry for just โน5 to reach the old Shiva temple. Walk around and see the thousands of small Shiva lingas carved on the temple walls. People believe that when the river water touches these lingas, it helps wash away sins.
2:00 PM โ Visit Pushkar Ghat and Enjoy the Peaceful Atmosphere (15 km, ~20 min by cab)
Go back to the famous Pushkar Ghat in Rajahmundry, on the southern side of the Godavari River. You can see people doing puja near the water. In the evening, join the Harathi (river aarti) with lamps and incense under the three big bridges. The lights, chants, and peaceful atmosphere make it a special experience.
4:00 PM โ Visit Sri Mahakaleshwar Temple and Enjoy Some Peace (5 km, ~10 min by auto)
Visit the new Sri Mahakaleshwar Temple, which opened in April 2022. It is the first temple of its kind in South India. Youโll see beautiful granite idols brought from Jaipur and Mahabalipuram. The temple is known for a special Bhasma Aarti, done every morning using ashes from cremation. Entry is free, and the calm surroundings are great for some quiet time and reflection.
5:30 PM โ Visit a Shopping Mall or Enjoy Flowers at Kadiyam (If You Have Time)
If you have some time, visit Shubhamasthu or Chennai Shopping Mall in Rajahmundry. These are popular shopping malls, mainly known for clothes and fashion items. Or, if you prefer something more peaceful, drive about 12 km north to the well-known Kadiyam Flower Nurseries. Youโll see acres of colorful flowers like roses and orchidsโperfect for a quick photo stop before ending your day.
